Wood-pressed oil (kachi ghani) is how oil was made long before refineries. Here is what that means for what you buy.

About us

Ruthu Thailam: cooking with nature

We believe food is not just about taste. It is about health, tradition and purity. Our journey began with a simple mission: to bring back the age-old practice of using wood-pressed oils, made with care and free from chemicals.

Each oil is extracted using the traditional wood chekku method, so the natural aroma and flavour of the seeds and nuts are kept. It is the method passed down through generations, and it is how we make groundnut, sesame, coconut, mustard, almond and nygir oils.

Here are the questions we hear most often about our oils, wood pressing and ordering.

01What is wood-pressed oil?

Wood-pressed (kachi ghani) oil is extracted by slowly crushing seeds in a wooden press, so the oil is not heated by fast industrial machinery or refined with chemicals.

02Do your oils contain additives or preservatives?

No. Our oils are 100% natural, with no additives or preservatives.

03What size do the oils come in?

Our oils come in packs from 100 ml to 1 litre, depending on the oil. Ask us on WhatsApp for the size you need.

04Do you sell anything besides oil?

Yes. We also sell jaggery and honey. Message us on WhatsApp for sizes, prices and availability.

05How do I order?

Message us on WhatsApp at 96320 49753 with the oils and quantity you need. We will confirm the price and delivery or pickup with you.

06Can I visit the store?

Yes. Our store is at No. 288, Ground Floor, Narayana Nagar 1st Stage, Anjanapura Main Road, Thippasandra, Bangalore 560062. Use the map below for directions.

07Where do you deliver and how long does it take?

We deliver within Bengaluru. We confirm your address, any delivery charge and the expected time on WhatsApp when we confirm your order. Dispatch is usually within 1 to 3 working days.

08Can I pick up from the store?

Yes. You can collect your order from our store in Thippasandra between 9 am and 8 pm. Message us on WhatsApp first so we can keep it ready.

09What are the prices?

Prices are confirmed on WhatsApp when you order, because pack sizes and availability vary. Message us with the product and size you want.

10How should I store the oil?

Keep the container tightly closed and away from direct sunlight. A little natural sediment at the bottom is normal for wood-pressed oil.
